Activists in the inauguration of the Juan Soto Pro-Human Rights Movement
(Havana, September 8th 2011)- Various human rights activists met in the home of dissident Rene Rouco Machin, in Parraga, in the municipality of Arroyo Naranjo, to pay tribute to the fallen Juan Wilfredo Soto Garcia, a dissident who was assassinated by the Castro police in the city of Santa Clara. In the activity which took place in one of the poorest neighborhoods of Havana, the group inaugurated the Juan Wilfredo Soto Garcia Pro-Human Rights Movement.
“This is a dream come true, for a while now I have been wanting to pay tribute to Juan Wilfredo Soto Garcia. I believe that by founding a movement which carries his name he will be alive among us. Every 8th day of each month, our movement will meet to pay tribute to this martyr for the freedom of Cuba. Our goal is the freedom of the nation of Juan W. Soto Garcia and we will continue peacefully demanding, but in resistance”, declared Rouco Machin.
The Juan Wilfredo Soto Garcia Pro-Human Rights Movement will establish its headquarters on Estrella Street, between Pinar del Rio and Yunuri, Parraga, Arroyo Naranjo. The executive board of this movement is made up of its President, Rene Rouco Machin, and the secretariat Jennifer Suarez Varela.
